Southern Lumber and Treating Company is a leading producer of ACQ pressure treated lumber and plywood in the North Florida market. Founded almost 20 years ago as a CCA treater, in 2004 we converted our plant to produce lumber pressure treated with the next generation, non-arsenical, wood preservative ACQ. We have extensive experience in both the production and specification of pressure treated wood and can advise and explain the various uses of both CCA and ACQ. While we manufacture ACQ treated lumber, we also stock CCA piling and lumber for use where CCA wood preservative is indicated such as marine piling.
In addition to producing and supplying pressure treated lumber and plywood, we have available and extensive inventory of top of the line boatlifts, marine hardware, hot dip galvanized fasteners, stainless steel fastners, boat house hardware, dock floats and pile rings, and vinyl sheet piling.
ACQ is a new generation wood preservative developed to provide the consumer a non-arsenical alternative to the traditional wood preservative CCA. Beginning in 2004, the use of CCA was further restricted to prohibit its use in applications where contact with residential consumers was likely. As an alternative, two non-arsenical new preservative were made available, one of which is ACQ. Permissible and non-permissible uses of CCA can be found on the EPA website. Further details on ACQ can be found on the Osmose website.
An extensive discussion on pressure treated wood in general and details on permissible uses of CCA and ACQ can also be found in a PDF file download from the Southern Pine Council by clicking here.
